“There is a peculiar madness in failing to grasp what animals understand instinctively: you do not soil the ground that sustains you.”
Join us for the opening of where the light entersحَيْثُ يَتَسَلَّلُ النُّور an exhibition presenting the work of Khaled Jarrar. Using bullets arranged in grid patterns, the ceramic works in the exhibition create images that reference the ancient Mesopotamian goddess Ishtar — ranging from the tree of life, a bird, water, fire, and susurration. The clay pieces also draw upon a wider symbolic language through which the human body and the earth—Ardh—are understood as interconnected. The bullets used to compose the image evoke colonialism, patriarchy, and the militarist forces imposed upon the Ardh and upon the people fundamentally connected to it.
