This is the culminating event for Essay, an installation project by J. Grace Giordano, our 2026 Artist-in-Residence.
Essay positions the gallery as a studio and construction site, and uses making as a form of writing. Over the course of the residency, the space has been built, edited, and revised using a set of systems pulled from linguistics, creating a new, daily iteration of the evolving installation work. These reconfigurations and the cumulative act of making have been documented through writing and photography, producing a parallel archive of the project as it unfolded. The resulting installations, objects, images, and written publication have formed an essay composed across space, image, and text.
Grace (b. 1997, KY) is an artist-writer-educator currently based in Boston, MA. They hold a BFA in Art and Design from the University of Michigan and an MFA in Painting from Boston University.
