Julie Hom-Mandell: Wabi-Sabi – June 4 – June 30, 2012
The art exhibition, “Julie Hom-Mandell: Wabi-Sabi” opened June 4th at the Faneuil Library Art Gallery, 419 Faneuil Street (Oak Square), Brighton. The exhibition ran through June 30th. A public opening reception and discussion with the artist was on Saturday, June 9th. The exhibit was recommended by The Boston Globe and the Allston-Brighton Tab.
Julie’s work aims to bridge the traditional natural aesthetic of 14th century Japanese Wabi-Sabi with the complexities of our post-industrial life. Wabi-Sabi actively searches for understated beauty in the natural world. Through her artwork, she contrasts our modern life, which is oftentimes characterized by extreme multitasking and infinite diverging streams of distraction.
Julie received her Bachelor of Art in Psychology & Studio Art from Georgetown University and her Master’s of Science in Art Education form the Massachusetts College of Art and Design. For the past 6 years, she has been a studio art, clay and photography teacher at Weston High School. She has exhibited at the Danforth Museum of Art in Framingham and the Brighton-Allston Heritage Museum.
