2020 Spring Internships 

Tuesday, January 21st – Friday, May 8th, 2020

Credit or Non-Credit

Stipend – $60 per month (paid at the end of every 4 week period) for travel and food based on a 12 hours per week with at least one day (6 hours) in the office on an agreed upon day of the week.  The remaining 6 hours may be performed remotely at a time that works best for the intern. All Interns should have their own laptop and have good writing skills. All interns should demonstrate enthusiasm, stamina, good attention to detail, willingness to work with a team, and be good ambassadors of Unbound Visual Arts’ mission.

All Interns may be involved in some aspects of exhibitions, the Mardi Gras Celebration for the Arts, UVA’s Strategic Plan, and the “Allston-Brighton deserves an Art Center for the Performing and Visual Arts” campaign.

The Office/Headquarters is located in Brighton Center on the 57, 65, 501, and 503 bus lines and within walking distance to the Green Line (B).  Parking is also available. Unbound Visual Arts shares its offices with the Longwood Symphony Orchestra and Boston Musica Viva. The office is well stocked with snacks, fruit, coffee and tea. There is also a refrigerator and microwave.

Communication & Graphic Design

The intern will be involved in one or more aspects of marketing, public relations, and graphic design related to all of Unbound Visual Arts’ programs and events. Assignments may include one or more of the following: written and visual contributions to social media, MailChimp email blasts, WordPress website updates, SEO, press releases, direct mailings, contributions to UVA’s blog, and writing Google Ads.  Interns skilled in Adobe Creative Suite or similar may also create posters, flyers, postcards, catalogues, ads, social media graphics and other printed and promotional materials.

Arts Administration 

The Intern will perform general office work to assist in maintaining and updating files, databases, and calendars.  The intern may create event programs, research artist information, assist with communication and graphic design objectives.  The intern may also assist in UVA’s strategic planning process that is underway to create a short and long term plan and includes the possibility of new exhibition galleries and an art center for the visual and performing arts.

Development 

The Development Intern will work to help ensure the success of  Unbound Visual Arts fundraising activities. Responsibilities range from working on individual tasks as part of larger projects, to guiding entire projects from start to finish.  The tasks may include prospect research for major gifts, grant writing, direct mail solicitations, special events, membership programs, and database management.

Exhibitions, Curatorial, Collection Management

Intern may assist in all aspects of planning for new exhibitions. UVA exhibitions include: fine art by local, living artists, an independent curator and exhibition designer, a cultural and/or contemporary social theme, and a learning experience and interpretation. Tasks may include researching the availability of dedicated and managed exhibition galleries and preparing a call for art from artists for specific exhibitions.  The intern may also assist in managing Unbound Visual Arts permanent art collection. Responsibilities may also consist of research, writing, administrative duties, assistance in the procuring of exhibition materials, installation of artworks as necessary, and any number of unexpected errands or jobs required to help maintain an ambitious exhibition program of contemporary art.

Learning Programs

The intern will be involved in planning and implementing small learning programs, such as art talks and demonstrations, tours, curator talks, panel discussions, skill workshops (i.e. photos, framing, exhibitions, etc.), and literary presentations.

We always looking for dependable event volunteers (age 16 and over) for a few hours to a couple of days for events such as the Allston Arts District Open Studios, the Brookline Open Art Studios, the Annual Mardi Gras & Carnival Arts Fundraiser,  exhibit opening receptions, the UVA Art and Architecture Bicycle Tour, art workshops and demonstrations and many others.
