Mardi Gras 2020

8th Annual Mardi Gras Celebration & Art Sale

Friday February 21, 2020 – Stockyard Restaurant

featuring the Uptown Rulers

Unbound Visual Arts’ 8th annual Mardi Gras and Art Sale was a resounding success!  The February 21st event at the popular Stockyard Restaurant brought together 100 music and art appreciators and friends to mingle, socialize, and dance. Unbound Visual Arts (UVA) welcomed many new guests to this annual celebration that featured the jazz band Uptown Rulers, led by Chris Coughlin. In her remarks, Ruth Rieffanaugh, President of UVA’s Board of Directors, encouraged everyone to support the organization’s unique educational exhibits as well as its goal to create new permanent exhibition galleries for local art. This year, UVA added an art sale to the festivities with all of the art priced at $50. This resulted in 11 sales with 100% going to individual artists.  UVA wants to give a special thanks to the Stockyard Restaurant for providing its Tavern Room, and also to its generous financial sponsors including the Mass. Cultural Council, the Boston Cultural Council, and Berkshire Bank.  In attendance to demonstrate his support for local art and Unbound Visual Arts was State Representative Kevin Honan.

Plan now to be part of Unbound Visual Arts’ annual Mardi Gras and Carnival Celebration of the Arts.  It’s the only Mardi Gras celebration with an arts theme in Greater Boston.  It’s an evening of fun and celebration for all Unbound Visual Arts members, guests and friends at the very popular Stockyard Restaurant, 135 Market Street, across the street from the WGBH Headquarters at One Guest St.  We’ll have a live Mardi Gras jazz band, Uptown Rulers, complimentary appetizers, a full cash bar, an art show of UVA member’s work,  dancing, art slide show, a silent auction and a 50/50 raffle.  Come and be part of the excitement. Costumes are optional and we’ll provide the Mardi Gras masks, beads and feathers.  Share a good time with artists and other art enthusiasts from throughout the area.  This year there will also be a “small art works” sale at the Stockyard. You’ll be able to view and purchase small works of art at a very affordable price.  The Stockyard is conveniently located on the 86, 70 and 70A bus lines and it’s handicapped accessible. There is also ample free auto and bike parking on-site. Costumes are optional but do wear the traditional Mardi Gras colors. The traditional colors are purple,  green and gold. Green represents faith. Gold represents power. Purple represents justice.

Uptown Rulers is a local New Orleans style band featuring Chris Coughlin on Keys, Jess Fox and Scott Miller on a slew of Saxes, Scott Kremer on Bass, Philip Oullette & Ukumbwa Sauti on Drums.

Don’t know what Mardi Gras and Carnival is all about? No problem.  Mardi Gras and Carnival is a huge world wide secular celebration that happens every year during Winter to get us all ready for Spring. It’s really a big deal in New Orleans and most Latin American and many European countries.
