Lisa Sazer

Lisa Sazer creates bold, colorful still life painting, landscapes, and interiors with acrylic paint on canvas, using an expressive style that lies somewhere between realism and abstraction. She uses paint to interpret her emotional response to what she sees around her through the use of expressive line, vibrant color, flattened perspective, and the sparkle of white space. She takes a joyous, whimsical look at the world. She thinks of the objects in her still life paintings as characters or models, and she tries to bring life to their stillness. She also loves to dance, and when she paints, the movement of the brush, the expressiveness of line, the harmonies of color, and the design of the surface bring a sense of movement to the canvas.

Her first love was drawing, and my later exposure to artists such as Matisse and Alex Katz nurtured a passion for color and the flattened picture plane. She came to acrylic painting after working in silkscreen printmaking, textile design, and monoprinting.
