Brittany King

Artist Biography:

My name is Brittany King, and I currently live in South Boston. I studied Studio Art and Art History at Wheaton College (MA) where I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in 2010. A year later, I attended graduate School at Lesley University School of Education where I earned my Masters in Elementary Education. Fond of working with children and art, I began my career as an art teacher at a preparatory school in Connecticut. Some of my fondest memories include instructing art lessons to elementary aged children at the Rectory School (CT) and showcasing my art in Manchester-by-the-sea at the Brookwood School. Currently, I am a Social Studies Homeroom Teacher at the Dexter Southfield School in Brookline, MA. On my free time, I regularly paint and relish time spent outdoors, though preferably with a paintbrush in hand.

Artist Statement:

I often find myself painting landscapes and seascapes that evoke emotion and tranquility. I am fond of color and enjoy exploring with various hues created on my pallet. I didn’t always enjoy working with oils mainly because it requires time, energy, and patience. However, time spent in San Gimignano – a small Tuscan town situated relatively close to Florence – and practice painting with oils made me rethink my approach. I am eager to bring to life the photos I take.

I typically enjoy painting in large-scale, and I have recently been incorporating texture to emphasize rhythm and movement.
